What is “Direct Primary Care”?

Today people pay hundreds, if not thousands of dollars every month to an insurance company in case they have an accident and need to see a doctor.

But what do you get? Large co-pays, high deductibles, denied coverage, surprise bills. What a racket.

Honestly, our insurance system is broken, everyone knows that. Well, maybe it’s not broken for the insurance companies who make billions in profit by denying you the medical care you’ve been paying for.

Did you know that the vast majority of all medical care happens in the primary care office? Seeing your primary care doctor is where most people get most of their medical care most of the year. Rarely do patients have to go to the hospital, have an accident or an emergency. Rarely do they require a surgery, or have a heart attack or have a serious diagnosis like cancer. Most patients see their doctor in the office once, twice, maybe three times a year. Yet they still pay thousands every month for health insurance. I like to say that seeing your regular doctor with your insurance would be like using your automobile insurance to pay for an oil change - it just doesn’t make sense.

Instead, invest in a long-term relationship with a doctor you can trust, who will be available for you 24/7. A membership to the private medical practice of Dr. David Gunn and have direct access whenever the need strikes - phone, text, video call, office, home or hospital - your membership means you will never have to see someone other than Dr. Gunn. Direct primary care is exactly that - you and the doctor interacting and dealing with each other directly - no middle men, no secretary, no medical assistant. Just you and the doctor.

Another term you will read is “Concierge”, this term applies to doctors who bill your insurance AND collect a membership fee. Direct primary care takes the insurance out of the equation, so there is a more streamlined system. You can still use your insurance for medications, specialists or what have you, but when it comes to your primary doctor there’s no one else involved.
